projects. Which one needs your immediate attention or preparations to be completed TODAY? OK, go take a look at them right now and then pick one. This is the one we will focus on today.

For the past week or so we have been discussing how planning and preparation are two very different actions. If you haven’t read these posts, please do so – it will help you understand how your success may be hinging on these two critical activities… and we know you don’t want to leave your success to chance!

So why are we still discussing this?
Preparation is a Business Strategy

I know, I said preparation is a business strategy which secures your success. Sounds so simple and basic doesn’t it? This is precisely why most people don’t do it! How can something so basic be so important? Well, how can putting keys into your car’s ignition be critical to you driving? It’s just one of the elements to make your process of driving down the road so successful. Just as you need to learn that little rule about driving, you really need to put planning and preparation into your success routine! Please, don’t resist any longer, just begin learning a new habit to support your success and then you will see the value of this significant step of success.

The phrase below is what I call the Success Sequence. It is very specific as to what you need to do. Regardless of whether you are an Olympic Athlete, Dentist, Construction Worker, or Healer, this Success Sequence holds your success:

Planning before preparation,

before performance, before success

Now, I have a really cool example of how important preparation is to you. Right when I was between the planning and preparing writings, I had a client launch a new product. She is an excellent planner and is really good at having everything prepared before she takes action – and yet, she had a snafu with her launch! (Note: She isn’t new to this process.) During her preparation phase to launch, she forgot to test her purchasing links on her site to assure the process was completed and the customer had their product.

She called me up very excited that this product was beginning to move – it’s the first product of a new product line. We did our Happy Dance, spoke for another couple of minutes. Then, something that wasn’t so good started to happen… people weren’t getting their product! She hung up with me. She started her super-sleuthing to find the root cause of the snafu (of course right after she took the offer down – as she didn’t want to frustrate any more customers).

Within hours she was able to identify the problem. There was a space in the coding for the link. She called the shopping cart provider, it was corrected, and she was back in business. Of course, she sent an apology for the delay and added a bonus to all who purchased.

Her lesson from this: She didn’t do all the preparation to secure her success. For some reason, she didn’t test the link before she launched and it bit her in the butt! How much do you want to bet that she now has a step for testing links in her planning and preparation lists? Ready for your turn?
